Weights shift based on workload — local LLM heavily favors RAM and tokens/sec; travel favors weight and battery; coding balances thermals and RAM.

Why does budget matter so much?+

Budget is a hard ceiling — laptops above your stated price are excluded entirely, then remaining models are re-ranked. Raise the slider to see premium options like the MacBook Pro 14" M4 Max enter the list.

What model size should I pick for local LLMs?+

Pick 7B for fast assistants on 16GB machines, 13B for the sweet spot of quality vs. speed on 32GB+ machines, and 30B+ only if you have a Mac with unified memory or a discrete GPU with 16GB+ VRAM.
